The Luxon

Overview

The Luxon, also known as the Light, is a deity of light, rebirth, and possibility. According to Krynn creation myth, a single Light emerged from the darkness at the creation point of the universe, and other lights formed around it but settled as stars; the Luxon resisted the urge to burn and instead traveled, seeking self-knowledge. The Luxon approached a primeval Exandria, gave its light to the planet, cracked the surface, and gave it fiery life — scattering itself into fragments that became the beacons.

The Luxon does not have a personality or active consciousness, but the most revered worshippers interpret the dunamantic properties of the beacons as indicative of certain values — individuals’ free choice, blazing a unique path to learn about the world, and community. Accumulation of knowledge is prized. Worshippers hope to find all the Luxon beacons and reunite them, believing that the Luxon will awaken and take the consecuted to start a new and better world.

Post-Exodus: In the thousand years since the Exodus, the Krynn Dynasty has evolved from a regional power in Xhorhas into an expansionist colonial religious institution operating across Nuxan. The consecution rite — originally a community practice of the Dynasty — has become a tool of political control. Luxon mission houses operate as embassies, intelligence outposts, and soft-power conversion engines simultaneously.

Goals & Methods

Consecution: Consecution is a ritual practiced by the Krynn Dynasty that enables a form of reincarnation. The ritual involves attaching a soul to one of the beacons of the Luxon. When a consecuted person dies within 100 miles of a beacon, their soul does not go on to the afterlife — instead the beacon draws the soul into the body of a humanoid child born within range of that beacon. Around adolescence, the child begins to recall memories of their past life (anamnesis). When an individual feels they have learned all they can from their current life, achieving a state of clarity called achess, they may in a guided ritual end their life within range of a beacon to move on to a new life. Once enlightened enough to meet the Luxon, they are considered an Umavi, or “perfect soul,” and are venerated.

Typhros: A kind of madness called typhros afflicts those who are unable to integrate the memories of a series of lives; those who suffer it are quietly removed from society and from the cycle of rebirth.

Mission houses: Operate in cities throughout Nuxan as the public face of Luxon expansion — offering consecution, community services, and political relationships,
