Raven Queen
What the Faithful Believe
Mortal turned goddess during the Divine Gate’s establishment following the Calamity. Once a mortal mage who devised a way to cheat death and ascend to godhood — an act that drew the jealousy of another deity, resulting in the curse that claimed her name, memories, and mortal life. She became the Raven Queen: cold and calculating, obsessed with fate, determined to prevent others from artificially extending life or cheating death’s natural order.
Governed her realm of Letherna within the Shadowfell, sorting the souls of the dead and preventing undeath and the corruption of fate. Nemesis of Vecna.
Status After the Exodus
Departed during the Exodus alongside the other gods. Her absence left the Shadowfell’s soul-transit infrastructure — structural to the plane itself, predating her — operating without governance. A thousand years of unsorted soul transit has produced a Shadowfell dramatically more dangerous than anything the people of Nuxan understand.
The Echoes of the Raven worship her in secret and believe natural death sends souls to her care. They do not know what the Shadowfell has become in her absence.
Tensions with Rival Faiths
The Luxon’s consecution prevents souls from entering the Shadowfell by binding them to beacons. The Raven Queen’s followers view this as a violation of the natural order of death. The Luxon frames it as salvation from a now-dangerous plane, whether or not its leadership knows what the Shadowfell has actually become.
