The Exodus
Description
The event approximately 1000 years before the campaign’s present in which the gods of Exandria either abandoned the world or chose mortality. The founding trauma of Nuxan — what every faction, religion, ideology, and power structure in the setting is a response to.
What is known publicly: The gods departed. Divine magic became scarce. The Feywild sealed. The Shadowfell lost governance. The world was left to manage itself.
What is contested:
- Whether the gods left voluntarily, were forced out by Predathos’s influence, or were destroyed in some final conflict no mortal witnessed
- Whether any gods chose mortality and now walk the world as mortals with no memory of their divine nature
- Whether the Progenitors — the original Luxon entities the Luxon theology promises will return — are real, and whether Caelestis’s plan to draw their attention has any basis in fact
- Whether the Exodus was an ending or a transition
The naming: Years are now counted After Exodus (A.E.), year 0 being the Exodus itself. The Post-Divergence calendar continues but the epoch resets. “Exandria” persists in historical texts; “Nuxan” is the common colloquial name for the world as it now is.
