FIGHTER
Bassuras produces fighters the way it produces everything else: through necessity, exploitation, and the shared understanding that if you can’t protect what’s yours, you won’t have it long. Gang enforcers, Court-employed muscle, Blood Pit veterans, crawler drivers who learned that a gun handles a dust storm ambush better than a sword, ruins surveyors who made it back from the Hollows after everyone else didn’t — Fighters here didn’t come from academies. They came from situations.
Available Subclasses
- Battle Master (PHB 2024) — Systematic, tactical, trained in maneuvers that don’t exist in any formal curriculum because the curriculum doesn’t survive contact with Bassuras’s street-level reality. Battle Masters in Nuxan built their own systems from observation and repetition.
- Champion (PHB 2024) — Some people are simply hard to kill and harder to stop. The Champion isn’t sophisticated. In a city that’s been surviving on stubbornness for a thousand years, that’s not a weakness.
- Eldritch Knight (PHB 2024) — Unauthorized arcane practice bound to combat discipline. The Cerberus Assembly doesn’t sanction Eldritch Knights operating outside their supervision, which means an independent Eldritch Knight is either very careful or operating somewhere the Assembly doesn’t look.
- Psi Warrior (PHB 2024) — Psionic ability in Nuxan is old, pre-divine, and doesn’t require magical authorization. A Psi Warrior operates entirely outside the Luxon’s framework for what power is supposed to look like, which creates a specific kind of institutional anxiety in people who encounter them.
- Cavalier (Xanathar’s Guide to Everything) — Mounted combat adapted for crawler culture. A Cavalier in Bassuras isn’t on a horse — they’re running point for a crew on the Flats, mounted on whatever can move fast enough to matter.
- Echo Knight (Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount) — Dunamantic tradition originating with the Kryn Dynasty. An Echo Knight pulls a version of themselves from a timeline that didn’t happen and weaponizes the gap between what was and what is. In Nuxan, a PC with this training either has Kryn Dynasty ties or acquired the knowledge from sources that will make those ties complicated.
- Barrow Guard (The Crooked Moon) — Tactics born from the grave — fighting discipline built around endurance past the point where endurance should be possible, and a particular comfort with death as an operational context rather than an outcome to avoid.
- Gladiator (Apocalyptic Subclasses UA) — The Blood Pits exist. The racing syndicates have informal bouts. The Court of Dust uses spectacle as population management. Gladiator discipline is theatrical, Charisma-driven combat — performance and survival fused into a single skill set, because in the arena they were never separate.
- Starfaller (Scavenger) — The Blood Pits also produce this, at the extreme end: someone shaped by enough concentrated violence that the world bends around them when they fight. The elemental storm effects aren’t magical practice — they’re what happens to a body that has absorbed that much for that long.
