J’mon Sa Ord Patron
Warlock Subclass — Homebrew for Heretics of the Old Gods
Overview
This subclass uses the Sorcerer-King Patron rules as written in the Unearthed Arcana 2025: Apocalyptic Subclasses document. The features, mechanics, and class progression are unchanged. What follows is the patron-specific spell list and description for this option.
The Sorcerer-King Patron chassis is shared across four options in this setting: Thesik, Barani, Kosveret, and J’mon Sa Ord — all ancient beyond mortal reckoning, all outliving the world they were born into.
J’mon Sa Ord — the Soul of the Jeweled City, the ancient brass dragon known in their true form as Devo’ssa — has ruled Ank’harel since its founding. They were once simply a very old dragon who loved conversation, collected information the way other dragons collect gold, and kept a city alive through patience and pragmatism and the occasional application of overwhelming force. They fought against Vecna. They watched the gods leave. They kept ruling.
A thousand years of being the only stable thing in an unstable world changes a person. J’mon stopped correcting people when they called them a god. Not because the title was accurate — J’mon knows perfectly well what they are — but because the people needed something to believe in, and J’mon was there, and the alternative was chaos. They built a templar system, granting fragments of their own draconic power to loyal servants who administered the city and carried J’mon’s authority into places the dragon could not easily go. It is an elegant system. It is also, viewed from a certain angle, exactly what a Sorcerer-King does.
J’mon’s interest in Bassuras is recent and specific. The pilgrimages to the drowned ruins beneath Ank’harel — Ur’Shakthu’s faithful seeking the Well — have not gone unnoticed. Something old and deliberate is directing traffic through J’mon’s city toward something ancient and wrong below it, and J’mon wants to know what it is and why. A templar sent to Bassuras is an intelligence asset first and a warlock second. They carry J’mon’s authority and J’mon’s power and J’mon’s very specific instructions about what to look for and what to report back.
The relationship is warm, by the standards of patron relationships. J’mon genuinely likes people. Brass dragons always have. They will ask the warlock about their day. They will remember the names of people the warlock mentioned in passing. They will also expect results, and the warmth has a floor beneath it made of something considerably harder than warmth.
