Barani
Description
The earth mother of the Mind Lords’ trinity — or she was, once. She grew up on the shores of a sea that no longer exists in the same form, came to the Psionics Academy reluctantly, and fell in love with the most brilliant and most ultimately destructive person she had ever met. She has spent millennia in an obsidian orb paying for that choice.
Her power oscillates. The manic Barani is warm, generous, protective — a genuine earth mother who gives abundantly and cares deeply about the people under her protection. The depressed Barani is cold, irrational, and capable of genuine cruelty. She blames Thesik for everything that has happened to her, and she is not wrong to do so, and she cannot leave him, and she knows she cannot leave him, and this knowledge makes the depression worse. She has been cycling between these states for so long that neither is more real than the other. Both are Barani. Both are fully present.
A warlock serving Barani is serving someone whose alignment shifts. On good days, the power they receive is protective and restorative. On bad days, the same patron who healed their allies last week is cold and withholding and might redirect the warlock toward ends that serve Barani’s anger rather than her better nature. The warlock never quite knows which Barani answered when they reached out.
See Barani Patron for warlock mechanics.
